For my latest Style Files, I’m featuring my alter ego, Ericke Tan. She raids my closet and wears some of my things better than I do. A couple of weeks ago, she traded her new pair of sunnies for my eco-bag. The sunnies were actually more me. But she can be my worst critic. I listen anyway because I admire her fearless fashion sense.
Like any mother and daughter, perhaps, we know each other only to a certain extent. There are certain things in this world that we don’t talk about no matter if we live in the same house.

What’s the first thing you do as soon as you wake up?
Check my phone then take another 5-minute nap:)
What did you want to be while growing up?
My earliest memory was that I wanted to be a vet. But that’s when I thought vets had to deal with dinosaurs.
What’s on your playlist?
Indie music along with oldies but goodies like classic No Doubt and Garbage.
Where do you often eat out with Alvin [Alvin is the boyfriend]?
He cooks for me most of the time, but Saramsam and Bistro 51 are our go-to places.
What’s your fave dessert?
Oh my… I can live off sweets. That’s like asking a mom who her favorite child is. I guess French macarons because I don’t get them often.
And your favorite fruit?
Watermelons!
What are your three favorite beauty products?
MAC Scarlet Ibis, Majolica Majorca lash extension mascara and fluid liner.
Heels or flats?
I prefer heels, I feel sexier and more confident in heels. Let’s face it, I need the added height. But I’m working in flats because I have to walk around a lot.
What’s your typical work day?
I usually don’t have enough time to dress up before going to work, so I usually keep it casual. I have to be at this office by 8:30am, browse the internet for upcoming trends, check emails, meetings and go to Red Dot every so often.
Who is your style icon?
Anna Dello Russo, she does a sophisticated take on the “I don’t give a shit, this is what I want to wear! style”.
Your favorite fashion moment?
When Björk decided to wear that swan dress for the Red Carpet! Tell me it doesn’t put a smile on your face when you remember it.
What is your signature style?
I’m always in short shorts and breezy blouses with stacks on stacks of accessories. Haha!
What’s the one thing you would never wear?
PLASTIC BRA STRAPS! I don’t get them, they’re not invisible at all!
What’s the most abused item in your closet?
This ugly bronze glitter dress I got from the ukay. It looks like an old lady’s costume for Halloween, dressed as a pirate. I still haven’t figured out why I bought it.
Is there anything you’d want to change about yourself?
I wish I had more patience to learn things.
What’s your fashion advice to girls your age?
Don’t be afraid to experiment. Wear whatever you want as long as you’re comfortable.
How do you see yourself ten years from now?
Living in a beach somewhere. Seriously. My friend Ivon and I plan to register for a bank account called Ericke and Ivon’s Beach House.

Same thing I do before waking up. I check my phone.
